Had some different sort of feathers laying around so went free style. Kind of hacked together, but it does swim right. Body is pearl mylar over thread. Hope its not too ugly and sorry about the image quality etc...
Rudimentary question, but what size thread do you use to get such a compact head? I've been using 6/0 and it stacks up pretty easily. Gorgeous tie btw.
Thanks so much. Usually I don't use thread thicker than 8/0 or 70 denier.
I have learned a lot reading these threads and am truly grateful for the effort and time folks put into posting the how to end of it and quite simply I'm very humbled at the skill level and willingness to share.
Its one thing whipping up some fishing flies and as I am learning, its a whole other deal when you try to photo the thing and look at it in full on macro. Aaackkk, every error is magnified in all its glory. There is a fine balance in making a fishing fly durable versus maintaining some sort of aesthetic. But that is part of the challenge of extending the joy we derive from this sport.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
