Cool Double Halibut hookup on the salt!

While fishing yesterday on a Southern California bay, I was targeting mackerel but got some spotted kelp bass and ended the day with a pair of halibut.

Fishing my 7wt spey rod with Airflo intermediate shooting head, 7' T10 custom cut sink tip, 8' mono leader and 2 flies (pink over white clouser & rootbeer salty fly) I had my first double hookup on the fly!

First I thought when I got the strike, it was one big halibut for taking home but turned out to be 2 small halis....

Released all the fish as they were all undersized...

That's pretty cool! I bet that Spotted bay bass also put up a tussle.

Is one a left eyed and one a right eyed fish? Hard to tell from the photos. That would indicate either two different species, or a pretty rare catch.

EDIT: Found my answer. California halibut are one of the species where you have mixed left and right eyed fish. Different from the halibut up north.

Yes both a left and right eye California Halibut.

When I hooked up into the pair of halis, it felt like I got one big one hoping to have it for dinner since 22" is the legal minimum.
