Happy Mother's Day

This morning didn't t start off like most mornings. Mom had a rough night with only three hours of sleep and our almost two year old son was starting with his terrible tendencies. Being that it was so close to Mother's Day, I thought I better intervene and get the boy out before he pushed the envelope with mom.

Since the tide was low I decided to take him to one of my favorites spots to target small travally using streamers. I decided to fish my saltwater bamboo conversion rod built by James Reid. I had asked him if he could build me a third handle with a longer bottom so I could use the 8wt single-hand rod like a short switch rod.

This configuration has become one of my favorite rods that I fish in Hawaii on a normal basis. The rod is light enough to sightfish for bones but if I want to blindcast I can make spey type casts. When fishing for travally I usually just walk the shoreline blindcasting into fishy pockets. The switch rod makes it fun and also helps in areas where there is little backcasting room.

Today my son Jordan and I had to walk far and work hard to get our fish. We finally got one before calling it a day. He just loves it when we get a fish to hand. The smile tells it all!

Just wanted to give a shout out to all the mothers and all the hard work they do for our families. Dean

I agree wholeheartedly! I would be nothing without my Mom. She is an amazing woman. She taught me all my best qualities through example. My wife is an epic Mom also and is great to our daughters and I. She never gives me a hard time when I want to go fishing either. What more can I ask for. Moms ars the best. Nate

Bring the swing.
