Identify yourself at Sandy Spey Clave!

Hello all,

For those attending the Sandy Spey Clave today and tomorrow, it would be great to have a way of identifying one another for those who only know each other by their Speypages handle. So, if possible, put your speypages name somewhere on your person so we'll know who's who.

I suggested that to Mark or Derek last year, but apparently nothing was done.

Too bad - many who know each other on this forum will simply walk past each other!

Simple name tags would have sufficed.

This discussion came up on a UK Salmon board that I am a member of.
A member was inquiring about a way for all members to identify themselves at events, casting clinics or even just on the river.
They came up with ... Badges ...
The badge identified the Forum and had a blank space on it for the member to write their handle on the forum on in permanent marker.
Maybe we could do the same if there is enough interest ??

Mike

Have you Swung a Spey Fly today ??

So we [I]do[I] need steenking . . . .?

Met someone on the river a decade or so ago, fished much of the day together, and only as we were parting company did we discover that we'd chatted on speypages quite often. So, count me in on the badges, Mike.

Seems like the most logical places to promote SpeyPages to other enthusiasts who perhaps don't know about the forum yet would be at all the various Claves.

Sounds like something the owners might want to consider: nominating a representative at each Clave gathering to have a table where badges could be available as ad-hoc nametags, and a laptop hooked up to allow folks to create a new account as they are introduced, browse the forums to get a feel for it, etc.

As the 2017 Sandy Clave is now history, I'd like to comment that it was a much appreciated affair for me. I ran to the river with a variety of lines to flex a recent build and found several that will suffice. A "thank you" to all of the participating vendors and the Welches troops for their efforts. A most helpful bunch all around. Can't quote any statistics, but I think attendance was down possibly due to weather or the reduced schedule.

Already looking forward to next year though,

Same here. Cast a s&#!ton of rods, both single and double, and learned a lot about casting from many of the generous folks throwing lasers all over the green. Just a great time.

Despite the low attendance....and abundant rain (most of us own some goretex so no excuses there. That's why we bought it), I thought it was a really good show. Too bad more guys aren't showing up as there is a TREMENDOUS amount to see and learn at this event. As a community we should be putting out a concerted effort to attend and support this event and others like it (i.e. Poppy's clave on the Clearwater in September) or we might loose them. That would be a tragic loss to our sport. The event sponsors and vendors put in a hell of a lot of effort and expense to make these shows happen.

Plus, these events provide the opportunity to meet kindred spirits and great guys like Gus (Evergreen 360) and his nephew, quite the little builder of sand and stone structures! Gus, maybe we should get together on a river and have a whack at some fish. We won't be having a steelhead season over here but I make it over to that side of the mountains ever once in a while. Let's stay in touch.

+1 to the sponsors, for sure! The fact that it was Mother's Day Weekend didn't help any -- at least for me.

I was there Saturday . I was the one in the Sims jacket and waders.

I had a great time casting trout spey rods. ACR, Sage one, TFO trout speys... chatted with Kerry Burkheimer, cast a really nice Loomis 6wt prototype rod. Met a bunch of nice people.
