Anderson 11'7" 3 wt review

After fishing this little trout spey for a good part of the summer, I can assess this little guy as being nothing short of impressive. From dinks to bruisers this rod is lightweight, sensitive and has enough grit to handle most of the trouting in the lower 48. It's smooth and a joy to cast with mono or a trout 8'-10' clear intermediate poly leader. My choice of shooting heads is an SPG scandi 260 or 270. Even a caster on the lower end of the proficiency scale (me) can attain an 85'+ casting distance. Looks like this rod will put some of my other trouters out to pasture....

Thumbs up Speyless for now

I've yet to get a spey rod but the ACR's really appeal to me.
More than likely an ignorant question but do they have versi-tips for these little rods ? Does the Ross balance well with AC and and which model is it?
How does the loading feel with the 260-270 grains and is the rod a full flex ?
That's a really great picture you've put up. I look forward to getting my first spey rod and practicing like mad so hopefully I can post a pic like that and better yet, have memories of a great fight as you must have certainly enjoyed
and will fondly recall.

All The Best,

Sam

3wt ACR

Very nice, I was talking to Gary about 2 weeks ago, and told him I do alot of smallie and trout here in southern Mi, and currently use a switch for the job, and he highly recommened the 3wt and said he's had nothing but great feedback from people who are using them. I will say I just picked up 7wt from him and just love it.

You won't regret getting this rod. I use it primarily for chasing searun cutts and resident coho. It is just an all around great rod with superb action and just plain fun to cast!

What's up Andy ..... When am I going to get a chance to throw that ACR? Are you going to bring it to the Clave? What line are you using on it? Skeet told me you guys got out the other day. Dave

Is this just another excuse for me to buy more rods ?

This rod is beyond sweet. My wife took mine so I'll have to get myself one this winter.

Sam....The Ross CLA 4 (7.6 oz) balances nice. Using a 260/270 gn head it feels more mid flex with fast recovery. Haven't used versi-tips but my understanding is that this rod will overhead with a WF5. I've only used scandi heads with 10' flouro/mono and 10' intermediate poly leaders with 5'-6' tippet. An all around fun little rod, can't go wrong here......good luck

Kzoo....Smallies and trout? You bet! That's funny, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an ACR 7wt for steel this winter!

CNR....Yup, we've had the same experience.

Thumbs up More Thanks

Yes, I'm saving up for one of these.
Smallies on this thing sounds like max fun too.
Is it possible this thing could make a good high stick rod too, or I'm I taking it a bit far....or maybe even way too far ?

Thanks to all for your kind replies. It is much appreciated.

Sam

Talking ACR....Dave

You bet....It's a real nice casting stick and love the #2, thanks for the advice I'm looking forward to snagging that 11'7" 3wt. I'll be at Henning a day early to float. Steeler PM me. Dave as for as the line that I'm using.....It came with 2 diff. tips and 2 heads, I asked Gary about skandi head and It's a custom made head I can't remember the guy's name that made it, sorry. Skeet and I have been getting out often lately having some fun.

The rod was too slow for me- I much prefer Garys 12' 5wt Nova- super sweet rod- lined light it is amazing.

When I first started casting a spey, I wore myself out constantly with whatever rod I was casting, because I was not in a state of graceful symbiosis with the rod...Erik Helm

With swinging, you are seeking to draw the fish off it's lie to take your fly. Typically, a smaller percentage of fish sitting in a run are willing to move off station to take our flies so, when we are swinging, we are leaving money on the table as we search for the players in a run...Todd Hirono (808steelheader)

Is this just another excuse for me to buy more rods ?

Great rod I have 2 lines SPG scandi with mend master running line and a indicator with mend master running line for weighed flys
The scandi is 230 grains and the Indi is 250 grains both are spot on with trout leaders

Kzoo....Appreciate info, thanks.

S Meister....Thanks for chiming in.... I'm a fast rod guy too with TCX'ers being my cup o tea. I find the 11'7" not nearly as fast/tippy as a TCX but still pretty quick with top third to mid flex depending on grainage. It does force you to slow down a bit. What grain wt scandi/skagit are you using on your new Nova 12' 5wt ? Sounds like a sweet one.

billy...Whoaa, you're a light scandi guy, nice. I couldn't quite get the rod to load deep enough with a poly and multiple flies under 260.
