Inexpensive Spey Rods

I mean really inexpensive. I build rods and teach rod building for my TU Chapter, am VP. My fish can't see the rods, so cosmetics don't matter, some come with lifetime waranties, but for $100, I don't care. Probably those on the other side of the pond are more familiar with them. I am really intrigued by the 6 piece.

Like: Guideline AWM - $150, Shakespeare: Expedition 6 pc-13'-8/9 - $90, Oracle IV, 4 pc 13' 8/9 - $90, Pflueger Trion S 4 pc -14' - 9/10-$150, or TICA 3 pc -13'-9/10 - $95.

A couple of my fishing pals have some of these, the Guideline AWM is a nice shooting head rod, & the 4 piece Oracle is good with short to medium head speylines [In this case an Airflow Tactical Spey 55 ft head which balances the rod very nicely]. I have the older model 3 piece Oracle which I bought as a cheap rod to leave in the car for opportunistic sessions on the river, & this feels a little bit quicker in action than the 4 piece but is otherwise very similar. The handle & reel seat are obviously low cost, but functional enough, & the rod is very forgiving on timing but can put out a good line. For a beginners rod for full head use I would say this would be an excellant choice as it will forgive minor timing errors & in the event of a tragic accident won't break the bank.

Regards, Tyke.

Cortland CL

Cortland CL Graphite 13-0 8/9 5-piece. Rod, reel, Cortland 444 8/9 DT line and cordura case--$250.

My first rod; I had lots of the wrong lines on it, probably including the 444 DT. I'm sure that with the right line, it would cast really well. I will probably try that some day, if I don't end up with too many other rods first.

I bet if your chapter contacted Cabela's you might be able to work an excellent deal on Traditional II spey rods.
