Winter steelhead in Oregon Dec/Jan

Anyone know of some good places to go spey fishing for winter steelhead in Dec./Jan. in Oregon or S. WA? I don't have access to a boat - so bank fishing only. The only place that comes to mind off the top of my head is the Alsea.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

The Wilson, Trask, Nehalem, sandy, clackamas all have better bank access than the Alsea.

check the flows and hit what ever river is in the best shape, they will all have fish in them.

Tell me more about the Sandy. I've been to the Speyclaves and there appears to be some bank access, but it also appears that there is a lot of private property surrounding the river. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again.

Oxbow Park

I agree hiring a guide is a good way to go.

Also, Oxbow Park on the Sandy has a lot of bank access and you could spend weeks there exploring and never fish all the access.

If you fish in Oregon the following books are indispensable. They contain great information regarding access points/run timings etc...

as stated oxbow park is a good place to start. depending on the weather the coastal rivers might have more fish. As it gets closer shoot me a PM I can tell you where we have been running trips.

All the above fish great but the Nestucca has lots of open bank and mean fish. Santiam, trask, and kilchis are also good walking spots

Cheers~ see you on the water

Be careful of the trees and tall scrub on the bank in oregon though... its all loaded with jig hooks and mono. I couldn't believe the amount of garbage on the nestucca.

Bet this mighty river's both my savior and my sin

Longer drive but the Chetco or lower Rogue are both very good December/January streams.
