That's one of my favorite lines - 460 grains. I fish it on a 13' 7 weight Orvis Shooting Star but have thrown it on a lot of 7 and 8 weight rods from a lot of makers. It is super sweet on my good friends 13'6" 7 weight Sage One, and I have recently been casting and loving it on a prototype 13'6" 8 weight Orvis Clearwater Spey that I have been field testing for a while. It's a perfect match on that stick though it probably won't be until Fall that they become available. I've had the good fortune to play with plenty of Scandi lines, but the AFS has always felt pretty perfect to me. Be sure and put about a 15'+/- leader on the end depending on rod length. I like 10' Poly leaders with about 5' of tippet. Too bad for your buddy, but good for you! Great line.

Yep, I wish I had one in the 7/8. I fish the 6/7 AFS on a 11ft 6/7 switch and love it for fine work. I don't find it very fun with T-11, or even T-8, but with 10ft poly leaders up to and including ~6ips and unweighted flies up to 1/0 or weighted up to #4 and she flies.

I prefer either the slow sink clear poly leader and ~5ft of tippet, or what I guess is the poly-tip equivalent to a type III sink tip (~3ips), again in 10ft with 5ft tippet. I've yet to get consistent results with just a mono leader on any scandi line, and I much prefer the feel of the poly leader as far as line stick goes. I blow my anchor too often - ya ya, I know slow down...

For me, it is not as forgiving with sink tips or bulkier/heavier flies as the Rio Steelhead Scandi or more aggressive heads like the Elixer or Rage, but I find it smoother during all parts of the cast when it all goes right.

I use one on a 12' 7" 7\8 Beulah Classic. Have used it for three-four years now. Like Davala's a previous post, I use any 10' weight poly leader and 4'-6' of tippet and fish it all day long. The rod and line are my favorite steelhead combination.

Great line, use it on a sage TCX 8119 with a 10ft polyleader. I use the 6/7 on the 7wt as well.
You got a good deal there
