Nope, I can use a 2X4 to lever a rock and that 2X4 will bend, but it will move the rock and it will still be a lever. What is interesting with fly rods is that their bend and the profile of their bend affects their efficiency as a lever, but they are still levers. Even the world's most rigid piece of steel will deform (bend) under load.

I can go on and on, boring everyone to tears, so I'm stopping here.

Yes Peter is of course %100 correct - a fly rod is certainly a lever in the full engineering/physics sense, and other then the potential to shorten the effective lever arm a bit if bent a lot, the elastic properties have nothing at all to do with its effectiveness as a lever. Even Archimedes would have agreed.

A carp on a fly rod is for some people a whole worldview or religion, one requiring devotion and fanaticism - analogous to our friends on here that only go after steelhead with dry flies. To have gotten such a toad (or I am sure there is a more canonical term within the religion itself) as a first time time catch on a two-handed rod ... I'd say that should provide a lifetime story, if not lifetime bragging rights! Awfully cool!
