Newbie reel /rod question

I have the TFO Pro 12'6 8wt.

I have a line a Teton Tioga Magnum 12.

Is this to much reel (weight wise) for the rod? Should I lean towards the 10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to get started on a budget. I was also looking at the Pflueger Trion 1912 and Ross CLA 6.

I just want to try and balance the rod well.

Thanks,
Chris

best way to tell, Scotty, is to go by how it feels rather than how it looks.

with backing on the reel, mount it on the rod and find where the outfit balances on your finger. If you're on the corks it'll be fine, and the ideal is for it to balance right at your hold point on the grips, a little bit tip up, while the fly is swinging. This reduces fatigue during a long day's fishing.
If you don't have the reel yet, you can guesstimate pretty well by using a reel that weighs about 10 oz.-that plus the backing and shooting line ought to balance that rod.
enjoy-

I have owned and fished with the TFO 8126 and used it with a Trion 1912. It will work fine. I really like the Trion 1912's. Great reel for the price and I own a few of them. I use them a lot for winter fishing, which can be pretty rough on gear. They have been frozen many times on the way home, strapped on the Vac Racs, yet still function like the day I bought them.
